No. The 5-module certification course starts from the ground up — anyone willing to do the work can earn their GBIAA credential. That said, the course and community are designed to be valuable for both new and experienced installers.

Most installers complete all 5 modules in 4–8 hours of focused study. You can go at your own pace — the course is on-demand and you keep access for the life of your membership.

When a homeowner submits a request on gbiaa.com, a real person at GBIAA reviews it and personally matches them with the best-fit certified installer in their area. This isn't a bidding platform — it's a concierge-style match. You get contacted with their details directly.

Right now, most areas don't have one yet — which works in your favor. The first certified installer in your zip code gets every referral that comes in for it. As more installers join your area, we rotate matches by proximity, availability, and specialty.

The earlier you join, the more of your area is yours.

Your GBIAA membership is the professional association you belong to. Certification is what you earn by completing the 5-module course and passing the exam — and it's included with your membership at no extra cost.

Maintaining your certification requires completing our ongoing continuing education (typically 2 short modules per year, included with your membership) and keeping your annual membership current. You can cancel anytime from your account.

The certification course is only available to members. We thought hard about this and built GBIAA as a membership instead of a standalone class on purpose. A certification only holds up if there's an active relationship behind it — ongoing education as standards evolve, personalized support when you hit a tough job, and a way for customers to verify your credentials are real. A one-time class makes all of that impossible to deliver, and weakens what the credential actually means.

That said, we only want you to be a member as long as it's working for you. If you ever decide it's not for you, we'll part ways as friends.

 Yes. GBIAA certification and membership do not replace general liability or professional liability insurance — you carry your own business coverage, as you would for any installation work.

Certification demonstrates your professional training; your insurance covers the job itself.

You're no longer authorized to display GBIAA branding or represent yourself as a GBIAA Certified Installer, and you'll stop receiving customer referrals. You keep access to the course materials you've already completed through the end of your billing period, but the credential itself is tied to active membership.
